Four special films have been chosen for the 2012 season. In each session, a facilitator will help you discover the archetypes inherent in the images.

Film Series: The Visitor

Walter Vale is a widower who teaches economics at a Connecticut University. No longer motivated by his work, he lives alone, struggling to find passion and meaning in his life. On a trip to New York to present a paper at a conference, he goes to the apartment that he has kept since his wife was alive (but hasn't visited for some time) only to discover a young couple living there. The story that follows illuminates the wonders of friendship, kindness, reaching out, exploring life and finding meaning in a changing world. It is a story of rebirth.

Peter Grant

Pete Grant is a "snow bird" that hails from Newtown, PA when he's not enjoying life in sunny Sarasota. He holds a B.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and an M.A. in Organizational Design. Pete married his high school sweetheart Anne; together they have five children and seven grandchildren. Pete retired 12 years ago after a 35 year career in the chemical industry.

Film Series:After The Wedding

Jacob Pederson, a Danish emigrant who manages an under-financed orphanage in India, returns to Denmark to seek funding. At the invitation of a wealthy businessman, he is invited to be a guest at his family's wedding. Several startling revelations turn Jacob's business trip into a life-changing experience. Nominated for Best Foreign Film in 2007, "After the Wedding" focuses on themes of family ties, lies and secrets, ideals and money, and obligation versus sanctimony. It provides an insightful look at the human condition and our motivations.

Candace Boyd

Candace Boyd served 5 years as Chair of the Program Committee / Board of Trustees for the C. G. Jung Society of Sarasota and 1 year as its Executive Director. Prior to that Candace was an Administrator/Teacher for 5 years at the International Language School in Bradenton FL and spent 18 years as an Administrator at St. Mark's School in Southborough, Massachusetts.

Film Series:About Schmidt

Warren Schmidt, a retired insurance actuary, has settled into a dormant life in an unfulfilled marriage to Helen. Warren's daughter is engaged to someone he believes is unworthy of his daughter. When Helen unexpectedly dies, Warren's world is turned upside down. Themes explored in this film include death of a partner, retirement, funerals, fathers and daughters, the anti-hero, making a difference, and connecting with others.

Mike Epperley recently retired after 35 years as a public school counselor in Sarasota, FL. He is a licensed Mental Health Counselor and has published three children's books. Mike enjoys world traveling, reading Carl Jung's books and dream analysis. Mike is a member of the Board of Directors of the C. G. Jung Society of Sarasota.

Film Series:Babel

Tragedy strikes a married couple on vacation in the Moroccan desert, touching off four interlocking stories, involving four different families, in four different countries around the world. Filmed on location in Morocco, Mexico, Japan and the United States ... different countries, with different languages and cultural barrier the stories are held together by an invisible force of fate and a visible symbol - a gun.

Helaine Schwabach

Helaine Schwabach, a licensed clinical social worker, has worked for Westchester County and Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York. Her interest in Jung began at Sarah Lawrence College under the teachings of Joseph Campbell. Helaine is currently pursuing her interest in Jung through study of the Red Book.

Betsy Bommer

Betsy Bommer is a retired clinical nurse specialist in psychiatry and mental health and a yoga and meditation teacher. She has a long time interest in Jung and the connections between psychology and spirituality. Betsy is currently involved in the Oneness Movement and volunteers with Jewish Family & Career Services and the Senior Friendship Center.
