Like ships on transatlantic crossings, our lives represent an ongoing encounter with forces far deeper than we ever realized. Our wisdom traditions speak of encounters with angels, demons, and spirits, which can easily rock, possess, and take over a life. Jung's work demonstrated that these Archetypes and the complexes that drive them have the power to diminish human judgment. The new sciences also speak of a Spirit as a self-organizing tendency innate within the natural world.

In this lecture, Dr. Conforti will present material from his forthcoming book, Hidden Presence: The Archetypal Effects of Spells, Possessions, and Traumas in Life and Relationships. With examples and illustrations from clinical practice, literature, and the cinema he will illustrate his research on the working of complexes within the individual and collective psyche.

Dreams are the language of the soul. Abiding in a domain that transcends conscious perception, dreams provide an objective and meaningful portrayal of our lives. Rather than simply retelling our past, dreams offer an intimation of a life waiting to be lived,an orientation into this new world, and a way to traverse it’s waters. In working with dreams,we embark on a journey to discover the wisdom residing in the psyche. The universal themes of redemption, birth, death, love, career, and destiny are clearly expressed in our dreams through the same archetypal images found in the world’s wisdom tales and sacred stories.

Using case illustrations from actual dreams and emphasizing the archetypal dimension of dreams, Dr. Conforti will discuss ways to understand the images and symbols found in our dreams. Examples include finding objective meaning and discovering universal images, leading toward the development of a truly spiritual approach to life.
